Les Dyl try 1974 Ashes

The 1974 Lions lost the Ashes with a narrow 22-18 defeat by Australia in the third Test at the SCG.

After a 12-6 home win in Brisbane in the first Test, the Lions levelled the series with a 16-11 victory in Sydney three weeks later but with five players needing pain-killing injections to play, ran out of steam in the crucial decider.

One highlight of the third Test was this cracking first half try by Leeds centre Les Dyl, converted by John Gray, one of six goals landed by the Wigan hooker.

Great Britain were without a handful of players who were not considered for selection because they were playing with Australian clubs, including Phil Lowe, Doug Laughton, Bill Ashurst, Brian Lockwood and Mike Stephenson.
